CHAPTER 10

The night had come for Kirsten and I to perform our song at Loose Fur and we were both excited for the show. We had spent the day rehearsing together at her place, taking occasional breaks to kiss and fuck and relax. It had been one of the greatest days of my life, actually. I felt free from stress, I kept a moderate high going with my vape pen, and I was with Kirsten. In a way, the day was really starting to convince me that things were going to be okay.

We approached Clyde and Adelaide together, both of us smiling and enthusiastic about the event. They both smiled in return as they saw us approach.

“Hey hey,” Clyde said. “How are you ladies doing tonight?”

“Just fine,” Kirsten answered. “We’re coming by to let you know we’re here.”

“That’s great,” he replied. “Adie’s got the clipboard… Adie?”

“Here you go,” Adelaide said happily, handing the clipboard over to Kirsten. I found Adelaide to be so beautiful. “If you’ve got a band name or something you want to go by for the show, just write it down there. We can announce you however you like.”

“I guess we didn’t think about that,” I mused, looking at Kirsten. “What do you think?”

“Why don’t we just go by our names?”

“Yeah, that’s cool,” I agreed. I watched as Kirsten wrote our names together on one line of the signup sheet.

“We’re going to run the night much like the regular open mic night,” Clyde announced. “But all the participants in Musical Chairs will go first. And we’re starting at seven-thirty, so be ready for that. After everybody involved in the event is finished, then we’ll return to the regular way we do things. Sound cool?”

“Perfect,” Kirsten affirmed. “Can we sign up for the open mic as well?”

“I guess we didn’t think about that,” Clyde said, looking to his wife.

“I think that just depends on how many people we get tonight,” added Adelaide. “I guess since we’ve got a lot of timeslots doubled up from Musical Chairs, we might end up having more time at the end of the night.”

“I can put you both down for the possibility of playing again later if you want,” Clyde conferred. “No promises that it will happen though. How does that sound?”

“Winnie?” Kirsten asked.

“Yeah, I don’t know,” I said. “I think maybe I’ll just stick with the Musical Chairs performance tonight. I want to focus on that.”

“Okay. Me, too,” Kirsten agreed.

“Okay, I’ll just keep you both with Musical Chairs,” confirmed Clyde. “Thanks for participating. We’re looking forward to it.”

After a few more pleasantries, Kirsten and I walked off from Clyde and Adelaide, both of us lugging our guitars at our sides. It was then that Kirsten spotted her group of friends that she usually sat with, but hadn’t been sitting with since being paired up with me. We walked up to them to talk, and I felt a little bit nervous about the prospect. There were four of them, all sitting together around a small circular table, three guys and a girl.
